Day 479: Historic vacationer Trump demands Senate not take vacation

Donald Trump goes on vacation every chance he gets. The Wall Street Journal pegged his first year of vacation days at almost a third of his days in office. NBC News keeps a running tracker and found that Trump’s pace hasn’t slowed down since then: he’s taken a vacation to a Trump-branded property on a whopping 32 percent of his days in office. Notably, NBC News’ tracker doesn’t count Trump’s trips to other vacation spots, such the handful of trips he’s taken to Camp David.

Overall, Trump is on pace to hit a historic amount of vacation days, despite criticizing past presidents for taking time off and vowing to not take any himself.

In even-brazen-for-him hypocrisy, Trump is demanding that another government branch — the Senate — forego their vacation if they can’t finish their mountain of a funding bill while also balancing the rest of the legislative tasks.

Trump’s job is entirely in Washington D.C. Members of Congress, however, need to return home to speak to constituents, handle local matters, and yes, in many cases, campaign for re-election. If anyone needs to go home more often, it’s members of Congress.

Yet Trump is the one who is constantly finding reasons to leave Washington. Whether it’s golf in Virginia, a weekend in South Florida or a random and needless rally in Ohio, Trump wants to be anywhere but the nation’s capital. Even when he’s there, his day should be full of meetings, but his schedule is routinely empty.

The fact that Trump is levying demands to work harder on those that have real business outside of the capital is laughably hypocritical: Trump played golf on Saturday and is back at it again Sunday.
