Day 439: Donald Trump’s Twitter Feed Has to Be Self-Parody at This Point
Donald Trump loves Twitter, of course. For better or for worse, he finds it the most effective way to let the world in on his mindset.
He has used it to reveal what he’s watching on TV, to expose his ignorance on issues and even to fire Cabinet members. But while he’s always used it as a bully pulpit and a crutch to mislead people into believing he’s doing more than he actually is, his missives have turned into self-parody.
He’s criticizing news networks like NBC, ABC and CBS and praising Sinclair. This despite Sinclair owning many NBC, ABC and CBS affiliates.
For the third straight day, he’s live-tweeting about a throng of would-be asylum seekers trekking through Mexico like it’s a TV show’s finale. As part of the tweets, he’s threatening to shuffle trillions of dollars over the Hondurans’ journey.
He is touting poll numbers, despite the fact that he can’t crack a 50 percent approval rating even in the most conservative of major polling companies. He — a thrice-married man who is alleged to have had numerous affairs and is currently being investigated for obstruction and conspiracy — accused Barack Obama of being a cheater.
And finally, he’s pushing back on analysis that says he’s wildly wrong about Amazon being to blame for the United States Postal Service’s failures by simply claiming, “I am right.” This despite the fact that the USPS actually makes money from their contracts with Amazon. He is attacking post office leaders — federal government employees who he can fire whenever he wants — by saying they “don’t have a clue” before adding a cryptic “(or do they?)”. He is (apparently as an attempted insult) calling the USPS as a whole “Delivery Boy,” which is literally their job.
Rather than filling his time with something productive, Trump is content to continue ramping up his Twitter usage with more and more bizarre offerings.
