Day 411: Former Trump Aide Thinks Mueller Has Something on Trump
He also claimed that Trump had to know about the infamous June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower.
Sam Nunberg, a former Donald Trump campaign aide, made a number of bizarre appearances on cable news shows Monday. He called press secretary Sarah Sanders “a joke,” vowed to defy a subpoena from special counsel Robert Mueller and ranted about all things Trump.
Nunberg played a vital role in shaping policies within Trump’s campaign, taking credit for the border wall and Muslim ban ideas, among other things.
While a lot of what Nunberg said vacillated between disjointed and incoherent, his comments about his interview with Mueller’s team have people craning their necks.
Nunberg can’t be sure what the special counsel has regarding the Trump investigation, but “the way they asked questions” led him to believe that Mueller has something concrete. On CNN, Nunberg went into more detail about the nature of the questions he was asked, noting that they delved into Trump’s business dealings and Trump Tower Moscow.
Regarding the infamous Trump Tower meeting with Russians orchestrated by Donald Trump, Jr. in June 2016, Nunberg says of course Trump, Sr. knew about it ahead of time: “He talked about it a week before.”
Nunberg also stated that Mueller’s team had asked him about the relationship between Wikileaks’ Julian Assange and Trump confidante and Nunberg mentor Roger Stone. He further affirmed his belief that former Trump aide Carter Page did collude with the Russians.
Most of the people that have been interviewed by Mueller’s team have kept their mouths shut. Suddenly, Nunberg appears on TV and discusses not only his interview, but his interpretations of the direction of the investigation. It’s possible that his statements Monday opened more areas of inquiry for Mueller and his team.
