Day 4: Call Your Senators Right Now
It takes less than five minutes
This week is important for Donald Trump. BIGLY. Many of his key Cabinet members are up for confirmation votes, whether at the committee stage, confirmation stage or both.
Call your Senators right now and make your voice heard.
- Did you know that Health and Human Services nominee Tom Price wants to increase what the poor pay for health services, wants to reduce services available to the poor, eliminate the Affordable Care Act, flip flopped on what to do with Medicare and is plagued by huge ethics questions.
- Did you know that Rex Tillerson’s ties to Russia have not been fully fleshed out and his connection to the Eastern European nation further solidifies a pro-Russia/pro-Putin angle by the new executive branch of government?
- Did you know Betsy DeVos couldn’t articulate basic ideas about public education reform and thinks guns might be a idea in schools because of bears?
These are just three of Trump’s nominees that face tenuous confirmation battles.
These fail to mention Steve Mnuchin (former Goldman Sachs partner and foreclosure king), Jeff Sessions (deemed to be too racist to be a federal judge by a GOP-led Senate in the 1980s), Ben Carson (who admitted he was unqualified to lead any federal department), Scott Pruitt (a climate change denier who abhors the EPA, the very organization he was tapped to lead) and Rick Perry (who wanted to eliminate the Department of Energy, without a basic understanding of what they did, before being asked to lead it by Trump).
In our opinion, crazy as it sounds, Sessions, Mnuchin and Carson will be confirmed relatively easily. Pruitt and Perry are also likely to be confirmed.
Call your Senators and push them to do what’s right, regardless of party affiliation. The phone call takes less than five minutes of your time and makes a big difference. You’ll likely be asked for your name and possibly your zip code. A staffer will take down your position and relay it on to your Senator.
We’re making it simple and giving you a sample script. You can leave a message, but speaking to someone is usually a better option if available.
“Hi, my name is _____________ and I am a constituent of Senator _____________. I’m calling to ask the Senator to vote against confirming _____________, _____________ and _____________ because they are unqualified, do not represent American ideals and are overwhelmingly in favor of policy decisions that hurt Americans in both the short-term and long-term. This is true for our state, other states and the United States as a whole. I urge the Senator to put politics aside and do what’s best for the country. Thank you for your time.
Don’t do it later. Votes are being taken at different times.
