Day 395: Trump Blames a Whole Lot of People for His Failures

Harry S Truman famously had a “The Buck Stops Here!” sign on his desk when he was the president. The message was clear: I’m in charge, I take responsibility, I take the blame when things go wrong.

Donald Trump apparently has a very different motto: Who the hell can I blame?

That was on full display Saturday.

Trump tried to blame Democrats and Barack Obama for both “the DACA problem” and gun control legislation. Regarding the former, Obama created the program via executive order after Republicans refused to put a clean bill on the floor of either chamber. Trump then created “the DACA problem” himself by unilaterally rescinding the program.

On gun control, Democrats tried to enact various types of legislation, only to be filibustered or outright blocked by Republicans at every turn. Trump also rescinded an Obama-era rule that would have prevented 75,000 mentally ill people from being able to purchase a gun. Bump stocks — which helped the Las Vegas shooter hit over 500 people in 10 minutes — turn a semi-automatic weapon into an automatic-like weapon. They remain perfectly legal.

Trump has spoken glowingly to and about the NRA, as they spent over $30 million to help him get elected. Trump is the definition of “the swamp” on this issue — bought and sold to the highest bidder. He hasn’t come close to any type of gun reform since his inauguration.

Trump also turned his sights to the FBI.

Trump’s tweet implies that there are hundreds of agents investigating collusion while leads are not being followed up on. No one with a functioning brain actually believes that those two things are related.

Trump is the guy who gets pulled over driving 140 mph on the highway and tells the cop, “Aren’t there murders you should be solving?”

He routinely tees off on the FBI and mischaracterizes both their work and methodologies. The FBI isn’t even investigating collusion, since Trump fired former director James Comey last year, triggering Robert Mueller’s appointment and investigation.

All of this follows Trump’s tweet less than 24 hours after last week’s school shooting where he actually blamed the victims for not doing more.

No matter the situation, no matter who caused the mess, Donald Trump’s top priority is ensuring that he has someone else to blame.
