Day 391: Trump’s Schedules Are Mind-Boggling Empty

Past presidents packed their schedules; Trump’s show a desert.

While campaigning, Donald Trump vowed to work harder than any president if he were to win the election. He swore there would be no vacations or golf or anything that would distract him from the monumental task of MAGAing until the U.S. got tired of winning.

Trump has obviously not kept that promise, racking up vacation days and golf rounds at a staggering pace.

The amount of television time and “executive time” Trump takes has been widely reported and increased substantially since his inauguration. The result, no surprise, is that his schedule reveals a shockingly small amount of work being done.

For instance, on Monday, Trump’s schedule included a brief meeting to discuss infrastructure, one intelligence briefing, a chat with Mike Pence, and lunch with Pence and Betsy DeVos. His entire schedule consisted of a 90-minute window from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Tuesday was more of the same, with only three things on the agenda: a meeting to discuss trade, a roundtable with the National Sheriffs’ Association and co-hosting a National African American History Month reception with his wife.

On Wednesday, Trump is busy by his standards, with an intelligence briefing, an infrastructure meeting, a session on tax reform issues and a closed-to-the-press bill signing.

In three days so far this week, Trump has a whopping eleven items on his schedule, one of which is lunch.

For comparison purposes, Barack Obama’s days generally started early and ended late, as they were stuffed to the gills with briefings, meetings and calls. George W. Bush started most days around 7 am. Bill Clinton was a notorious workaholic. George H.W. Bush packed his schedules full. Ronald Reagan was a rigid 9–to-5er, but jammed those eight hours with meetings and tasks.

Trump’s promises that he’d work harder than anyone haven’t just rung hollow, his team has given up on even trying to appear that he’s busy.
