Donald Trump was suddenly feeling gabby around reporters on Wednesday. As things typically do under Trump, the questions drifted toward the Russia investigation being spearheaded by Robert Mueller. Trump said not only would he be willing to speak to Mueller, but would do so under oath.

“I am looking forward to it, actually,” Trump said, before offering a preview of what his testimony might look like.

“Here is the story: There has been no collusion whatsoever. There is no obstruction whatsoever,” Trump said.

Taking a step further, on the second day in a row of blockbuster disclosures about the Mueller probe, Trump offered to do the interview under oath.

“I would do it,” he said. “I would do it under oath, yeah.”

When one of his attorneys, Ty Cobb, got wind of Trump’s impromptu statements, he claimed that Trump was speaking hurriedly and was only willing to meet.

“He’s ready to meet with them, but he’ll be guided by the advice of his personal counsel.”

Trump and his lawyers each gloss over the fact that Mueller has subpoena power and can compel Trump to sit for questioning under oath, regardless of Trump’s desires. Of course, Trump could then invoke his Fifth Amendment rights and refuse to answer questions, but that would be an odd look from someone who has claimed that they’re totally innocent and the entire story is a hoax.
