Day 357: Norway, You’re Up: Another Odd Meeting With Foreign Leader For Trump
The Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg, visited the White House Wednesday, and like oh so many before her experienced, things were peculiar.
During the joint press conference, Donald Trump touted Norway’s hydroelectric power, saying, “I wish we’d do some of that.”
The U.S. is actually fourth in hydroelectric power generation, ahead of Norway. Trump appears to be wholly unaware of what the Hoover Dam does or the fact that thousands of Americans are employed in hydroelectric jobs. With all the focus on a coal industry that isn’t coming back, perhaps Trump would be better served looking to renewable energy sources to spur job growth.
Confusingly, Trump also said that the U.S. could reenter the Paris Climate Accords after he moved to withdraw last year. He proclaimed that the deal was “very unfair” to the U.S., this despite the standards outlined being aspirational in nature and carrying no penalties for violators, including the U.S.
Trump also bragged about selling and delivering “F-52 fighter jets” to Norway. The problem is, no such aircraft exists.
He constantly evoked Hillary Clinton’s name, such as accusing her for colluding with Russians and blasting her for being for…windmills?
He continued to tout his Electoral College victory and pushed back on the Russia story — he said the word “collusion” a dozen times — and waffled on whether he would voluntarily sit for an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller.
Meanwhile, like so many before her, Solberg was forced to sit there and watch uncomfortably as Trump ranted and raved.
