Day -35: We Are Watching The Truman Show

In 1998, Jim Carrey starred in The Truman Show. The simple premise: a man was surrounded by actors in an isolated bubble for the world’s entertainment via television show. The man was none-the-wiser that his friends, wife and even parents were actors.

To make money, the producers of the make-believe world threw product placement everywhere, as can be seen in the clip below.

It’s hard not to see the parallels between the clip and what we’re living now with Donald Trump and those that surround him. Not only is he constantly on television for virtually everything he does, but it’s basically all a schtick to get you to buy things. Everything with Trump is for sale.

Access with Trump? Sure.

Access with Trump’s children? Sure.

Cabinet positions? Sure.

Items worn by a Trump? Sure.

Of course, none of this is surprising from the man whose name is the most salable thing of all.

Access, positions, physical goods, intangible goods. They’ve always been for sale. Since Trump has showed over and over that he doesn’t want to clear those pesky conflicts of interest prior to his inauguration, that only leaves one thing not for sale: Trump’s business holdings.
