Donald Trump has returned from his winter vacation in the mood to tweet anything that enters the space between his ears.

Tuesday, in a 16-minute window, Trump seemed to outdo even himself in sheer stupidity.

When Trump cavalierly threatens nuclear war, it does a number of things. First, it immediately gives credibility to Kim Jong-un’s own threats and elevates already-rising tensions in the region. It also makes the U.S. look feckless to the international community when its leader feels the need to engage in foreign spats and childish threats on a social media platform. Most importantly, it disregards the millions of lives that are on the line, which predominately include civilians on both sides of the border.

For Trump to threaten something so serious, the gravitas should be apparent. But, of course, for Trump it’s not. It’s just on to the next thing, as if his previous words are wholly irrelevant and forgotten.

Just a few minutes after threatening nuclear war with North Korea, Trump hyped a faux awards announcement regarding the American press.

The GOP is not only condoning this behavior, they’ve been one of the driving forces behind it.
