Day 339: Trump’s Racism Rears Its Head Yet Again

Donald Trump has an ugly, ugly history of racism.

Trump said over and over again that the only black president in American history must have been born in Africa. Trump settled a lawsuit that required his company to make sure apartments were rented without regard to race, color, religion, sex or national origin after being sued for not renting to black residents in New York. Trump has continued to dispute the DNA exoneration of the Central Park 5, despite the lack of any real evidence of their guilt. Trump called any of the predominately black NFL players who have kneeled during the national anthem a “son of bitch.”

The pattern continued, as The New York Times reported yesterday that Trump had some thinly-veiled choice words back in June about Haitian and Nigerian immigrants:

Haiti had sent 15,000 people. They “all have AIDS,” he grumbled, according to one person who attended the meeting and another person who was briefed about it by a different person who was there.

Forty thousand had come from Nigeria, Mr. Trump added. Once they had seen the United States, they would never “go back to their huts” in Africa, recalled the two officials, who asked for anonymity to discuss a sensitive conversation in the Oval Office.

There are shockingly few, if any, black senior staffers working in the White House, especially after Omarosa Manigault was summarily fired earlier this month. On the way out, Manigault proclaimed to see and hear things that made her uncomfortable regarding “[her] community and [her] people.” When asked, press secretary Sarah Sanders was unable to provide figures regarding the number of black staffers in the White House.

It doesn’t appear to be much of a mystery as to why.
