Day 334: Trump is a Terrible Human Being, Part 14,476

An Amtrak train derailed in Washington state, killing at least three and injuring dozens more on Monday morning. In a violent, ugly accident, derailed train cars flew all the way down onto vehicles near the underpass where the train was supposed to pass above. There was no initial doubt about the seriousness of the accident, as the pictures from the scene showed jackknifed train cars strewn vertical and horizontal throughout the area.

The normal, easy reaction from anyone would be to obviously express sympathy and support for the victims and their families.

But Donald Trump is not normal, and does not process news in that way. Everything circles back to him and how it can benefit him. This has been seen in the past, as after shootings or terrorist attacks abroad Trump is quick to push his own political narrative or tout his policies.

Monday was no different.

Trump takes the time to both push for an infrastructure plan — despite the accident occurring on a track that had been recently renovated and in the face of his budget proposed earlier this year that would’ve slashed funding for Amtrak — and blast the money spent in the Middle East, without any sense of regard to the well-being of the people on the train.

While Trump eventually tweeted out his sympathy for the victims, the impact is substantially diminished when those sentiments fall in line after politics.

Trump sees a tragedy and his first thought is, ‘How can I politically benefit from this?’ To Trump, it matters not that there is no correlation between the accident and his proposals. All that’s important is pushing a narrative.
