Day 294: Trump Cowers in China
In what has become an uncomfortable standard, Donald Trump cowered when facing another head-of-state. Trump, in China, another stop on his 12-day, five-nation Asian trip, was speaking about the U.S.-China trade relationship.
The speech had a very different tone compared to his words when his feet are planted on American soil.
When in America, Trump feels at ease blasting the Chinese with over-the-top rhetoric and making grandiose promises. But, when standing next to Chinese President Xi Jingping, Trump only feels comfortable excoriating Americans.
Even political reporters, many of the most cynical, seen-it-all types in the U.S., were taken aback by Trump’s 180-degree flip-flop.
Then, to make matters worse, in what has become a pattern of constantly dodging reporters, Trump broke precedent by failing to take questions from the press.
And, of course, now that Trump or his team were no longer standing next to any heads-of-state, they were happy throwing them under the bus.
