Day 268: The Current State of the United States of America (Spoiler: It’s Really Bad)

Donald Trump has been in office less than nine months. Sometimes it’s easy to lose track of exactly where the country is amid so much pointless turmoil and absurd missteps by the administration. Here’s a brief rundown of the current goings-on (and the likely effect longer-term effect):

  • Trump decertified an agreement to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons that most people — even in his own administration — agreed was working. (The likelihood of Iran developing a nuclear weapon in the near future increases; the likelihood of another nation entering into a bipartisan agreement with the United States in the near future decreases; American allies are furious and mistrust intensifies.)
  • Trump is single-handedly sabotaging the Affordable Care Act via executive order after failing to convince Congress to pass numerous iterations of heinous healthcare “plans.” (Premiums will rise dramatically, even for people that do not have insurance plans not purchased through the exchanges set-up under the program; people will lose insurance coverage; people will get sicker; people will die.)
  • Trump is abandoning millions of Americans in Puerto Rico. (Many people will continue to suffer, and possibly die, as lack of drinkable water and infrastructure continues to weigh on the island.)
  • Trump is continuing to threaten North Korea. (Who knows, but nothing good.)
  • Trump is telling Americans that in America we worship God. (The erosion of the First Amendment continues.)
  • Trump is threatening to pull the licenses of news organizations with whom he disagrees with the coverage. (Stop if you’ve heard this one before: The erosion of the First Amendment continues.)

This is the “G” in MAGA that the first “A” was promised, huh?
