Day 264: Trump Paints Himself Into Hilarious Corner
Still peeved about — allegedly — being called a [expletive] moron by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Donald Trump told Forbes that the two men should compare IQ tests.
“I think it’s fake news, but if he did that, I guess we’ll have to compare IQ tests. And I can tell you who is going to win.”
Who would win?
Well, Trump did a call a man “Liddle’” today (with the reasons for both the spelling and random apostrophe totally unclear).
Retiring Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) has rankled Trump in recent days.
Tillerson, meanwhile, has rankled Trump for the last 8 months, with rumors aplenty that he was on his way out any day. There was such a concern that Trump would fire Tillerson while the Senate was in recess in August — which would allow a confirmation-free appointment — that the GOP-led Senate unanimously agreed to hold pro forma sessions to prevent any recess appointments from occurring.
This is where it gets good.
If Tillerson were to be fired by Trump, the next Secretary of State would have to make it through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee before getting a confirmation vote on the Senate floor.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee happens to be headed by a man named Liddle’ Bob Corker.
Trump — alleged master negotiator, three dimensional chess champion and someone possessing the intelligence of 50 rocket scientists and 50 brain surgeons — has been hoisted by his own petard: he’s stuck with Tillerson for as long as he’s stuck with Corker.
