Day 260: The Reality Show Presidency Continues

Donald Trump loves to give a wink and a nod to things that might happen. Sometimes he follows through — such as pardoning former Maricopa County sheriff and racist Joe Arpaio — and other times he does not — such as creating a vaccine commission filled with autism-linkers and skeptics.

But Trump’s favorite thing to imply is military action. He loves letting everyone know he has access to the big red button. Trump has threatened North Korea many times, usually overtly. Many Americans have started taking for granted these threats and normalizing or excusing Trump’s rhetoric.

They shouldn’t, because, for one, he’s getting bolder.

He met with many key military leaders yesterday, before enjoying dinner with them and their spouses.

Trump — forever uncomfortable by silence — blurted out to the media, with a twinkle in his eye, that the nation was presently in “the calm before the storm.”

Trump cryptically replied “You’ll find out” as reporters questioned him as to what that meant.

You can almost hear Trump saying, on a voice over, “Next week, on the United States of America: Will we have a country? Will there be nuclear annihilation? Will Iran or North Korea get my wrath? Tune in and find out!”

Except the presidency and the country should not be treated like a reality show and an audience.
