Day 258: Donald Trump — Again — Shows Zero Empathy, This Time in Puerto Rico

He flings supplies into a crowd, derides local officials for throwing the U.S. budget out of whack, and says Maria wasn’t a real storm compared to Katrina.

Perhaps Donald Trump thought he was heading to Puerto Rico for just a photo-op in the wake of Hurricane Maria decimating the island. A show of support and little else, maybe. He’d wander around for a couple hours, claim he learned a lot about the issues facing millions of American citizens, then head home. A talking point to be thrown in a speech or tweet later on.

However, what he managed to do and say in his abbreviated stop was belittle the people of Puerto Rico and embarrass himself. Empathy has never been his strong suit, but the quotes and moments from a couple hour jaunt are difficult to believe.

After he had his fun treating desperate people like they were in the stands of a baseball game catching souvenir t-shirts by launching paper towels at them, Trump boarded his plane, over an hour before he was scheduled to, and skedaddled out of there.

Despite numerous accounts and actual videos of his words, Trump is blaming “fake news” for his abominable trip and callous words.

How dare the free press quote exactly what he said in print or air his exact words via video!
