Day 244: Jimmy Kimmel Annihilates the Sham of a GOP Health Care Bill

The GOP is making yet another run at repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act, desperate to get a win for themselves and Donald Trump.

After comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel’s son was born with a heart defect, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), a physician, appeared on Kimmel’s show to discuss the need for a good health care plan that covered everyone, regardless of their income level, that had no exclusions for preexisting conditions or lifetime caps. Cassidy called this the “Jimmy Kimmel Test.”

Welp, fast forward a couple months and Cassidy has coauthored a bill along with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and the feckless and bought Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV) and, SPOILER ALERT: the plan wildly fails the Jimmy Kimmel Test.

Kimmel’s monologue not only clearly highlighted the major parts (and problems) of the bill, but eviscerated Cassidy for lying on his show.

Republicans have 11 days to jam this thing through with only 50 Senate votes. A number of Republicans have already expressed some wariness about the bill — one the GOP does not intend to have scored by the Congressional Budget Office, have any semblance of bipartisanship, or have any meaningful hearings of any kind about — but there is still a chance this becomes law. Trump would love nothing more than to sign a bill he doesn’t understand to proclaim victory, despite millions of Americans losing their health insurance.

Heed Kimmel’s advice: if you don’t like this bill, pick up the phone and let your elected officials know today.

It takes less than five minutes. Find your senators here and your representative here.
