Day 221: Trump Fails at Trying to Be Decent Human Being
He just can’t help himself as he dives into political arguments with a natural disaster on-going.
With Hurricane Harvey battering eastern Texas, and flooding hitting unprecedented levels throughout the region with plenty more rain to come, Donald Trump is trying as hard as he can to be a decent human being. He’s not using his Twitter account for actual good — like important updates or letting people know how they can help — but rather general shows of support and weather punditry.
The bar is so low that Americans can really hope for no better from Trump than the above tweet.
But there’s plenty worse, as this morning proved.
With a natural disaster going on, one affecting millions of Americans, Trump just couldn’t help himself. In additional to political tweets, like these yesterday …
…Trump doubled down today.
First — and, again, remember that Harvey is still very much a dire, on-going situation — Trump retweeted an article blaming the left as the true cause of violence in America.
This falls in line with Trump’s “on many sides” argument regarding Charlottesville violence that gave cover to neo-Nazis, a statement which he avowed, kinda sorta disavowed, then reavowed.
Then, Trump retweeted a two-day old tweet defending his pardon of racist former Maricopa County sheriff Joe Arpaio by comparing it to Barack Obama’s pardons.
If there’s one thing we know by now that the right can’t do, it’s defend any of Trump’s positions without mentioning Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.
Trump then retweeted a Mother Teresa quote.
The implication is, apparently, despite his divisive rhetoric as recently as this morning, nothing should come between Americans.
Finally, he got around to retweeting something Harvey-related.
Try as he occasionally does, Donald Trump is incapable of being a decent human being, even during a national emergency.
