Day 212: Peace Out, Bannon

Donald Trump’s Chief Strategist Steve Bannon is out. Whether he was fired or resigned is unclear, but is largely irrelevant. It’s been the worst kept secret in Washington that Bannon had been on borrowed time for a while.

Bannon was ousted from the White House and back at his old stomping grounds conducting staff meetings at uber-conservative publication Breitbart by the end of Friday.

In seven months, Trump has lost a National Security Advisor, a Chief of Staff, three White House Communications Directors, a Press Secretary and a White House Chief Strategist — a role literally created for Bannon.

So. Much. Winning.

On Day -67 — as in 67 days before the inauguration — here’s what we originally wrote about Bannon, since it seems particularly relevant this week:

The alt-right, conspiracy-theorist editor of a far right wing website will now hold a prominent position near Donald Trump for key policy information.

Reminder: “alt-right” is really the PC term for a group of white-nationalist, racist and anti-Semetic individuals.

The alt-right, bubbling quietly for a generation, has backed Tea Party and severe right-wing candidates around the country over the last decade. They now have a seat right next to a soon-to-be president who has no clue what he’s doing.

This is a very big deal. This is a very scary deal.

279 days later and it’s see ya, Steve. Sell snake oil, peddle conspiracy theories and blow the dog whistle on the fringes where you belong. You certainly never should have been anywhere near the White House to begin with.

212 days in, 1250 to go
