Day 207: Donald Trump Calls Media “Enemies” While Refusing to Do Same About Russia, White Supremacists

Donald Trump released a re-election video yesterday. Yes, the calendar still says it’s 2017, and Trump might not even run again, but the propaganda-style video was released anyway.

The ad, published on Trump’s website, primarily touts jobs and economic growth, though these are largely the products of Barack Obama’s presidency. Trump is yet to sign a single major piece of legislation and the nation’s budget — until the end of next month — is one signed by Obama.

Meanwhile, the ad decries Trump’s “enemies that don’t want him to succeed” while plastering dozens of well-respected media members’ faces on the screen. Two extremely critical points: 1) The media is not the enemy. They have the right to cover politics and anything else they want as per the First Amendment to the United States Constitution; 2) It’s not the media’s job to push presidential agenda or see him succeed. We don’t live in a society with state-run media pushing propaganda 24/7. Trump largely has Fox News for that. That the rest of the media won’t massage his ego or defend him at all costs does not make them the enemy.

Interestingly, a nation who attacked the U.S.’s democracy and white supremacists whose protests led to three deaths and numerous injuries in Virginia have yet to be decried as anything approaching the rhetoric that Trump describes the media. In fact, those two groups have either been defended by Trump or given cover to continue acting hostilely toward American values.

They’re the enemy.
