Day 179: Donald Trump’s Approval Rating Hits Historic Lows
Only a third of the U.S. approves the way Trump is carrying out his duties.
Donald Trump has been commander-in-chief for less than six months. He promised to accomplish a lot and never play golf. While the latter is decidedly not true, we now have definitive proof of one of his achievements.
How low is low?
Just 36 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of his job as presidency, as opposed to 58 percent who disapprove. Only 38 percent of people think he’s making significant progress towards his goals. Regarding his alleged bread and butter, negotiation skills, Trump polled very poorly (two thirds of people said they trust him just some/not at all as opposed a great deal/good amount).
Notably, people overwhelmingly believe that the Russians tried to influence the 2016 election and that Trump is trying to interfere with that investigation. On the healthcare front, support for Obamacare is easily outpacing support for Trumpcare (50 to 24).
Overall, a pretty bad poll for Trump.
As it relates to his approval ratings — perhaps the thing he cares about more than anything — he couldn’t help but chime in.
He’s actually claiming that a sub-40 approval rating “is not bad at this time.”
But, again…
