Day 169: Trump Invents G-20 Gossip
Trump claims world leaders at the economic summit are chatting about cybersecurity, the DNC server and John Podesta.
Donald Trump is at the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany. He has a number of important face-to-face meetings today, including one with Russian president Vladimir Putin. During the Putin chat the only Americans in the room will be Trump, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and a translator. It’s vital that he be prepared.
Instead, he’s spreading false rumors.
Is it possible that this is what has the worldwide leaders buzzing? No, because:
- Podesta had his email hacked, which is a vastly different issue than the hack on the DNC’s servers.
- Podesta wasn’t in charge of the DNC and couldn’t supply the server even if he wanted to. Podesta was involved with the Hillary Clinton campaign and the FBI was engaged with the DNC prior to Clinton winning the nomination.
- The DNC worked with the FBI and DHS on the Russia issues.
- The CIA was never involved in the process as this would fall outside their duties.
- It’s highly unlikely that more than a handful of the people at the G-20 even know the name John Podesta.
- The G-20 is a summit for heads of state from around the globe to discuss economic issues and fiscal policies. The idea that “everyone” is talking about a cybersecurity issue from more than a year ago is crazy.
Yesterday, Trump conceded the idea that Russia may have been involved in election tampering, but scaled back any criticism and noted that other nations may have been as well. Ironically — considering today’s tweet — and cowardly, Trump has indicated that during his meeting with Putin he will not mention the hacking scandal.
