The former acting AG slams the current AG on his criminal justice reform stance.

Hero and former acting-attorney general Sally Yates wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post that is absolutely worth a few minutes of your Saturday morning.

Calling out the divergent stance to criminal justice reform embodied by current Attorney General Jeff Session and the Trump administration at-large, she wrote, in part:

All across the political spectrum, in red states and blue states, from Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) and the Koch brothers to Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and the American Civil Liberties Union, there is broad consensus that the “lock them all up and throw away the key” approach embodied in mandatory minimum drug sentences is counterproductive, negatively affecting our ability to assure the safety of our communities.

Yates highlighted Sessions’ own op-ed, which attempted to justify harsh prison sentences and mandatory minimums for drug crimes. She criticized how Sessions relied on fear to claim that such sentences were necessary.

That argument just isn’t supported by the facts.
