Day 136: Trump Shamefully Politicizes Terrorist Attack

He used London attack to shoehorn a narrative.

Donald Trump, just hours after a London terrorist attack killed six innocent civilians and injured dozens more, took to Twitter.

First, he retweeted conservative aggregation site, Drudge Report’s unsubstantiated account of what was happening.

An hour later, he crafted his own.

His first reaction to the news was to retweet an uber-conservative website. His next was to politicize a terrorist attack for personal gain.

Of course, he’s been totally silent on a terrorist attack on a mosque in Quebec by a pro-Trump white fundamentalist. Of course, this week, he belatedly called a Portland attack that left two dead for standing up to another white fundamentalist who was bullying two Muslim girls, merely “unacceptable.” Of course, prior to his speech announcing the U.S. would pull out of the Paris Climate Accord, with millions watching, Trump denounced a terrorist attack in the Philippines when there was no evidence the attack was actually carried out by terrorists, but rather, during a botched robbery over a gambling debt.

Trump’s true motives — and worse, his character — shine through during each of his actions or inactions. He doesn’t care about the senseless loss of life or immediately standing by our allies. He doesn’t care about the details. He cares only about currying political points; it’s all about shoving an agenda down the throat of his supporters. When it fits the narrative, push it early and often. When it doesn’t fit the narrative, ignore it and hope it goes away soon.

He’s knows that the Muslim ban is moving its way through the court system now and no amount of tweeting is going to pressure them in any way. But he’s trying to “rally the base” and drum up support for a ban that has been repeatedly struck down as unconstitutional and decried as cruel.

Obviously, terrorist attacks worldwide are a chief concern. Americans’ safety and the safety of our allies’ citizens is paramount. However, to exploit the loss of innocent lives for cheap political gain is pathetic and unbecoming of the office of the presidency.

UPDATE: Sleeping on it and conferring with aides didn’t help Trump’s discretion.

He also took the London mayor’s comments out of context and blasted him for them.

Then he got political — and stupid — again.

Does Trump believe if the terrorists had easier access to guns in London there would be more dead or less dead? Of course it’s the former and he’s undercutting a second amendment argument, but he’s too intellectually deficient to see it.
