Day 112: Russia has made itself at home in the Oval Office
Yesterday, Donald Trump met with Russian officials — some of whom are central to the investigation into hacking of the U.S. election —in the Oval Office.
Russia media was allowed to stay for the meeting while American media was kicked out. Of the Oval Office. In the White House. In Washington D.C. In the United States.
When photos were released of Trump yucking it up with the Russians, the White House was apparently upset. Of course, they weren’t perturbed that the photos were taken, but rather that photos were released and published in Russian media.
Russia, all but put its feet up on the Resolute desk and began scouring for a place to erect a statue for Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Despite the White House’s now-insistence that they were hoodwinked by the Russians, Trump and his team were warned about providing access to photographers and other Russians prior to the Oval Office meeting. They ignored those suggestions.
On top of that, the Oval Office meeting came just hours after one Russian — the alleged mastermind behind the election hack — felt comfortable enough under the White House roof to sarcastically mock the firing of FBI Director James Comey.
While the White House continues to spin, remember, Trump didn’t expect this photo to get out.
