Day 107: Donald Trump Continues to (Unknowingly) Praise Barack Obama
Donald Trump — for years — called the non-partisan jobs reports “fiction” and “phony,” “hoaxes.”
In October 2015, Trump said, “Nobody has jobs. … It is not a real economy. It is a phony set of numbers. They cooked the books.”
Less than a year ago, in August 2016, he said, “[T]he five percent figure is one of the biggest hoaxes in modern politics.”
In November 2016: “The terrible jobs report that just came out … you can see phony numbers, 5 percent.”
In December 2016: “The unemployment number, as you know, is totally fiction.”
A weird thing happened when he became president, though. Those fictitious jobs reports became real.
News flash: it all began to work under Barack Obama. The gains we’re seeing today are the result of years of work. Specific month-to-month uptick can be traced back many months. It’s unlikely we’ll know the true Trump impact on jobs and economic growth for many more months.
Trump retweeted this Fox News clip where Trump’s chief economic adviser smiled and bragged like they had actually done the hard work to get the economy in the position it’s in.
Every time Trump touts job growth or employment rates or economy growth, he and his staff — and we — can thank Obama.
