Day 102: Trumpcare is Back — Time to Call Your Rep.

Monday means it’s time to get back to work.

The newest iteration of the American Health Care Act — also unaffectionately referred to as Trumpcare — currently calls for the gutting of the preexisting condition requirement as a state-by-state choice, among other brutal rollbacks. The most recent amendments were undertaken to get the large voting bloc of the House Freedom Caucus on board, but has the chance to alienate moderates.

Donald Trump has no clue what’s in the latest version of Trumpcare.

On Thursday, Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ), who authored the amendment that got many far right wingers on board, was asked on Thursday if Republicans had enough votes to pass the bill. “If so we would have already voted on it,” he said.

But right now, it looks like the GOP may have the votes to pass this thing in the House.

The administration has indicated that it’s all or nothing right now for this bill. Don’t pass it here and Trump will focus on other issues.

While, yes, even if it passes in the House, the Senate would have to approve, and some GOP senators have already expressed an unwillingness to pass this version of the bill…

…strange things happen behind closed doors.

Right now, GOP senators can talk a big game about their own bill, but the heat will be turned up by Trump and many on the right to pass this thing if a GOP-controlled Senate is given the chance.

If you’re betting on the spines of politicians, much less Republican ones when so much is on the line, you haven’t been paying much attention.

Take two minutes and call your representative and let them know what you think about Trumpcare.

You can easily look up your representative here.

Here’s a sample script:

“Hello, my name is __________ and I’m one of Rep. ___________’s constituents. Has the [congressman/congresswoman] decided on how they play to vote for the most recent version of the American Health Care Act? I’m calling to voice my opposition and I urge Rep. _____________ to vote against it. It’s wrong for our district, our state and our nation. Thank you.”
