Twitter made the oft-demanded, long-expected decision to permanently ban Donald Trump from their platform on Friday due to “the risk of further incitement of violence.”

The ban came just two days after Trump earned a 12-hour timeout from the social media service for his role in the failed insurrection at the Capitol. But Friday proved the last straw, when he said, “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

Despite having his account deleted, like a toddler escaping from a safety gate, Trump found away to get back to his favorite non-golf habit. Without access to his personal account, he accessed the official U.S. government account, lambasting Twitter, whining about free speech and largely repeating his earlier tweet.

Twitter deleted those tweets too.

With the click of a button, Trump’s more than 88 million Twitter followers were gone. His much-needed audience disappeared.

Trump’s last official tweet on the platform was his announcement that he would not attend Joe Biden’s inauguration. That will make him the first president not named Richard Nixon to skip his successor’s inauguration in over 150 years.

1,450 days in, 12 to go
