Day 1,417: COVID-19 at ‘record levels’ across the board; Trump is still tweeting about lies about election fraud
The COVID Tracking Project meticulously collects data from around the country about the coronavirus. After nearly a year, the virus is not only still around, it’s hitting “record levels” of all of the tracking project’s key metrics.
Net positive cases are up.
Rates of positive tests are up.
Hospitalizations are up.
Deaths are up.
With the effects of Thanksgiving not even felt yet, it’s highly likely that things will get far worse.
Not capable of caring any less is Donald Trump.
He spent Sunday by continuing to baselessly allege election fraud, irregularities and conspiracy theories, basically only stopping to retweet photos of Melania’s final White House Christmas decorations.
For once, he did give a reference to the coronavirus, but it was only to mention that his lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, has it. (Giuliani has been flying all over the country tilting at electoral windmills on behalf of his boss. Nary has a mask been seen on Giuliani’s face.)
With over 60 tweets on the day, Trump ranted about things like daytime TV and James Comey. But most looked something like the one below.
Thousands of Americans are dying every week from COVID-19. Most don’t have access to the first-class facilities and experimental treatments that Trump received when he became infected.
Though Trump experienced the disease first hand, he is not only ignoring the ability to do anything to help others, he is ignoring the situation altogether. The current stance is a shameful continuation of non-policy that has existed for most of 2020. History will judge him poorly and see that the blood of tens of thousands of American is on his hands.
