Day 1,406: Law and order: Trump pardons and congratulates ex-NSA Flynn, who twice pleaded guilty to lying to FBI

In what is sure to begin the “pardon a bunch of lackeys” portion of his waning time in office, Donald Trump pardoned his disgraced and former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn.

Flynn twice pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI related to their Russia investigation and Moscow’s potential coordination with the Trump campaign. Flynn then tried to retract the guilty pleas and the DOJ — in an unprecedented decision in a case they brought — tried to dismiss the charges. The judge hearing the case had thus far refused the DOJ’s attempts.

So Wednesday, a day after pardoning a turkey named Corn, Trump pardoned Flynn. Trump called erasing a guilty plea of a man who admitted lying to the FBI a “great honor,” proving that Trump’s claims of “law and order” don’t apply to those in his orbit.

In late 2017, Trump acknowledged firing Flynn because of his lying to the FBI and Mike Pence.

Three years later, those lies are moot to Trump. He has done what he wanted to do from the beginning: excuse the unlawful behavior of a confidante who may have lied to help protect Trump. As of Wednesday, at least for once in his life, Trump repaid the debt.
