Day 1,371: Trump bragged about his healthcare accomplishments by presenting a large book. It looks empty.
For the second straight day, Donald Trump continued his strange war on “60 Minutes,” the nation’s most famous a TV news program. A day after walking out of an interview after not being lobbed softballs, Trump tweeted a number of explanation-less images where he sat across from interviewer Leslie Stahl.
Yet the one tweet with a caption stood out.
Apparently in another attempt at a gotcha moment — the White House published a photo where Stahl was not wearing a mask for a few moments after the interview on Tuesday— the White House press secretary handed Stahl a large book that Trump claimed was “some of the many things we’ve done for Healthcare.”
Totally apropos for an administration that has bragged about an imaginary healthcare plan that they have never bothered to create, the page that was opened to— and maybe the entire book — was empty.
The White House has plenty of history in staging photos involving empty pages, including stacking empty file folders as a prop and writing on blank pieces of paper with a Sharpie on multiple occasions to role-play working.
Of all the silly games the White House can play, quickly dumping a heavy, possibly empty book into a 78-year-old’s arms to snap a quick photo is among the most transparent. To use the photo even when the visible page is blank is remarkably predictable.
