Day 1,363: COVID-19 contagiousness is still a joke to Trump
The U.S. death toll from COVID-19 has hit 215,000. Nearly 8 million have been infected, including Donald Trump, who needed round-the-clock care, with treatment from experimental drugs, at a world class facility for three days to get the disease under control. At this moment, cases are surging throughout the U.S.
And Trump continues to cavalierly treat the highly contagious nature of the disease as a joke.
He has numerous staged photo-ops, risking the health of those around him.
He has appeared in the White House common areas and Oval Office without a mask and still apparently testing positive for the virus.
And he has continued to host superspreader rallies with no social distancing and nary a mask in sight.
At the past two such events, Trump has joked about kissing all of the men and women in attendance, as proof of his health and the low risk to everyone.
Trump thinks of himself as a comedian trying out new material in front of different crowds. Unfortunately, Trump’s punch line relates to a virus that has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans, will certainly kill tens of thousands more, zapped the short and long-term health of millions more, and brought the American economy to its knees, largely because of the guy telling the one-liners.
Even around his closest aides, Trump continues to refuse to follow basic CDC recommendations and common courtesy.
To Trump, COVID-19 is just another issue to publicly swat away with machismo, even as he was reportedly privately petrified of it killing him less than two weeks ago.
