Day 1,348: NYT report about Trump’s taxes, finances has him rattled

The way to get under Donald Trump’s skin has always been money. He thinks about it constantly. He’s deeply envious of those that have more of it. He looks down on those that have less of it. He brags about his assets to anyone who will listen. And yet he’s been notoriously opaque about proving the value of his holdings.

Thanks to the bombshell report by The New York Times, it’s as obvious as ever that Trump is a tax cheat or a broke conman or both.

The report clearly bothered Trump tremendously, who is no doubt concerned that many of his on-the-fence supporters and undecided voters will see, among other things, his $750 federal income tax bill in 2016 and 2017 and wonder why they’re paying far more despite making far less.

Trump took to Twitter to brag about his assets, his lack of debt and his passing up a presidential salary.

Trump’s tweets are telling. Notably, there’s no proof on the majority of things he rallied off. Additionally, there’s no denial about his three-figure payment for federal income taxes. There’s the acknowledgement that for years he has dangled that he “may” release all of his financial records but has thus far failed to do so. And there’s the blatant lie that he’s the “only” president to give up a salary: Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy did so (and didn’t line their pockets with millions of dollars of political and government spending at their own properties at the same time).

The first presidential debate between Trump and Joe Biden is Tuesday night. Desperate to turn the affair into a mudslinging event, not-a-doctor Trump is continuing to libel Biden by accusing him of being on unnamed drugs to improve debate performances.

Trump seems eminently worried about everything right now.
