Day 1,346: Irony is dead: Trump urges Senate to engage in Barrett hearings free from ‘personal or partisan attacks’

Donald Trump officially nominated far-right judge Amy Coney Barrett to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. Republicans, hypocritically, are set to jam Barrett through in the days and weeks before the 2020 election.

Monotonously reading off a teleprompter, Trump introduced Barrett and, without a shred of irony, urged lawmakers to conduct a “respectful and dignified hearing,” that is free “from personal or partisan attacks.”

Of course, Republicans didn’t give Barack Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland, any hearings for nine months before the 2016 election, inventing reasons and fake rules as to why the seat had to remain open. The invented reasons and fake rules no longer apply to them now that a Republican is president.

And for Trump to ask for anything to have no “personal or partisan attacks” is the height of absurdity, since Trump says such things daily.

Trump lives for personal attacks. There’s literally a Wikipedia article of disparaging nicknames he has given to people.

Barrett will get a hearing, something Garland was denied. To serve on the Supreme Court, senators are entitled to delve into Barrett’s past, judicial rulings, writing and any controversies that could cast doubt into her partisanship.
