Day 1,336: Politicization of science continues as Trump declares CDC director ‘confused’ by vaccine timeline

Donald Trump knows there’s an election less than seven weeks away, polls have him trailing and COVID-19 continues to dominate headlines as he continues to wave the white flag on any semblance of a federal response.

But he remains desperate to turn people away from grim numbers like 200,000 dead Americans and over 6.6 million infected.

In the past, he has resorted to touting ineffective and possibly deadly treatments like hydroxychloroquine and horrifically dangerous things like ingesting household cleaners.

He has also continued to tout timelines for a vaccine. First it was “very close” in February, and seemingly every few weeks since then, Trump has come up with a new timeline against all evidence to the contrary, including FDA vaccine guidelines.

Now, Trump is falsely using the election as a timeline for a miraculous vaccine.

The CDC director testified before Congress Wednesday and said a vaccine for the general public wouldn’t be available for upwards of nine more months.

At a briefing later in the day, Trump said the top scientist “made a mistake” and was “confused,” as if the vaccine would really be ready in mere weeks.

Further trying to prop up ridiculous narratives, Trump disgustingly claimed that discounting “blue states” — about half the country — would lead to the U.S. having far better COVID-19 death rates.

As patently gross as it is to wave away death in certain states when Trump is the president of the entire U.S., Trump is also incredibly wrong on the facts.

It’s worth nothing that discounting “blue states” would also plummet the country down the world rankings for GDP, innovation and education.
