After weeks of ignoring forest fires ravaging the West Coast, Donald Trump finally made time to see the carnage affecting tens of millions of Americans himself.

Trump has routinely blamed lack of forest management — including “sweeping” forest floors” — for causing such out of control fires. So he seemed surprised to learn that the vast majority of forests in California were not within the state’s jurisdiction, but rather the federal government’s.

Trump pointed to “trees that explode” as one reason for the wildfires before citing the head of a “major country,” that agreed. Trump said unnamed politician — who headed a “forest nation” — warned Trump that the U.S. had “trees that are far more explosive,” which triggers more widespread fires.

Trump could be referring to an invented conversation he claims he had two years ago with the president of Finland that their leader denied having.

It’s clear that the raging wildfires are something that is occupying the smallest of Trump’s attention. He continues to demonstrate no understand about the underlying issues. He is happy to spout garbage simply to get through the day and move on.
