Day 1,328: Trump’s latest wall whopper: Mexican toll booths will pay for it

Donald Trump has been telling lies about a southern border wall, literally, for years. Among other absurd claims, Trump swore Mexico would pay; the wall would be 50-feet high; it would stretch 2,000 miles from coast-to-coast; it would be impenetrable; seriously, Mexico was going to pay.

Lie. Lie. Lie. Lie. Lie.

Mexico is never going to pay. The wall is nowhere near 50-feet high. New barriers account for just five miles of structure where none existed previously. Far from impenetrable, it is easily defeated by cheap tools and ladders. Seriously, Mexico is never going to pay, U.S. taxpayers have and the U.S. military saw their funding yanked.

Two months before the election, Trump broke out another whopper at a rally in Winston-Salem, North Carolina: Mexico will secretly pay for the border wall via “toll booths” at the border.

Forty-five seconds of blithering with lies, a “maybe,” and lots of hypotheticals that he has failed to enact in nearly four years. All to throw out red meat to a red crowd that is gleefully yelling the same thing they were four-plus years ago.
