Day 1,327: Trump rips top military brass, military spending nine months after boasting about signing ‘largest defense bill ever’
During a Monday press conference, Donald Trump launched a random, scathing attack against top military brass and wasteful military spending.
Trump accused the Pentagon of trying to start wars to boost the profits of defense contractors. He also bizarrely claimed that soldiers — who he has reportedly referred to as “suckers” and “losers” repeatedly in private — are in love with him. (This is patently false.)
Trump, of course, has had an infatuation with increasing defense spending since taking office, falsely and frequently boasting about “rebuilding” the military. He has worked in tandem with the GOP to try to slip billions of dollars into unrelated bills.
In December he signed a $738 billion defense bill. He bragged about the bill on Twitter, calling himself “proud” to sign the record sized bill, noting that it would be used for “[n]ew planes, ships, missiles, rockets and equipment of every kind…”
The spending he was bragging about in December is the exact type of spending that Trump was so critical of Monday. But what was his honor nine months ago, he is now blaming on those under him in the chain of command.
As usual, Trump sees nothing as his burden or his fault.
