Day 1,306: Amid 170,000 deaths and economic meltdown, Trump brags ‘country is doing great’ and claims only a rigged election will make him lose
In less than six months, 170,000 Americans have died from COVID-19. More than 5 million more have been infected with the virus. From coast-to-coast, Americans are struggling to figure out their finances and how to make housing payments. Small business owners are worried about payroll and their employees are worried about job security.
Donald Trump, spending an inordinate amount of time at his private golf clubs, is living in an alternate universe.
Delivering remarks at a Wisconsin airport, Trump bragged about the U.S. “doing great.”
And without a tinge of irony, Trump criticized Biden’s response to the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, which claimed less than 10% as many lives in the U.S. as COVID-19 already has.
Channeling his always apparent authoritarian proclivities, Trump floated not only running for reelection this year, but again in four years.
Trump is openly pushing unconstitutional actions because of perceived slights. Joking or not, his comments would be beyond the pale for any sitting president since the adoption of the 22nd Amendment.
With the 2020 election getting closer and closer, Trump cast doubt on the legitimacy of any election that doesn’t end with him winning.
Telling people whose lives are hanging by a thread — or who have lost friends and family — that all is grand in the country while shouting some of the most antidemocratic rhetoric to leave a president’s mouth in American history: all in a day’s work for Donald Trump.
