Day 1,277: Trump thinks he’s a genius for being able to identify an elephant out of a photo array

He accidentally acknowledged 30 of the 35 questions were elementary

Donald Trump has a penchant for claiming he’s some sort of genius. The latest “proof” he has used for that idea is professing to ace a cognitive assessment frequently used to test seniors for dementia.

Sunday, during an interview with Fox News’ Chris Wallace, Trump was confronted with just how low a bar that is.

Wallace said to Trump, “It’s not the hardest test. There’s a picture and it says, ‘what’s that?’ and it’s an elephant.”

Trump acknowledged that yes, “the first few questions are easy,” before demanding Wallace try to answer “the last five questions…that get very hard.” Trump also noted the entire test was only 35 questions, accidentally tipping that the first 30 were incredibly simple.

The interview, of course, was bizarre in so many other ways too. Trump nonsensically said a “full and complete health care plan” to repeal and replace Obamacare would be “sign[ed]…within two weeks.”

The Affordable Care Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by Barack Obama. A federal court can invalidate it — though the Supreme Court has not struck it down, despite scores of challenges to it — and Congress may repeal it (with a president’s signature)— which it has not done. If Trump thinks he can sign something via executive order or otherwise to formally replace the ACA, it calls into serious doubt the efficacy of the 35-question test that he claims to have aced.

He shrugged off over 140,000 COVID-19 deaths in U.S. and continued to blame the lack of testing for increased illness and death levels, as if there aren’t enough bodies to fill a golf course.

Asked about bipartisan support renaming military bases named for confederate generals, Trump rambled incoherently about “brand new rockets,” Al Sharpton and winning “beautiful world wars.”

And Trump continues laying the predicate for both a loss and not accepting the results of the 2020 election, saying “it depends” and “mail-in voting is going to rig the election.”

While the interview was airing, Trump was at his private golf club for the 279th time in 42 months in office.
