Day 1,245: Bolton finally dishes: Trump begged China’s Xi for reelection help and ok’d his building of concentration camps
By John Bolton’s own admission, Donald Trump is a lazy imbecile who puts his own interests before the country in a wildly dangerous way. None of that prompted Bolton, Trump’s National Security Advisor until being ousted in September, from telling Congress those things under oath many months ago. Rather, Bolton chose to release those details for profit in a book that he could have written even after testifying.
With the book set to drop in a week — and an attempted restraining order from the Trump administration desperately trying to keep the contents from being released — details are dripping out from reporters with advanced copies.
One of those nuggets is that Trump agreed with China’s plan to place one million people of the minority Uighurs in concentration camps.
President Trump told Chinese President Xi Jinping that he endorsed Beijing’s now-infamous archipelago of prison camps for minority Uighurs, John Bolton writes in his new memoir, The Room Where It Happened.
The former national security adviser quotes U.S. officials who took part in Trump’s meetings with their Chinese counterparts.
“According to our interpreter, Trump said that Xi should go ahead with building the camps, which he thought was exactly the right thing to do,” Bolton writes. Another official said something similar, “which meant we could cross repression of the Uighurs off our list of possible reasons to sanction China, at least as long as trade negotiations continued.”
In a common theme — see Russia and Ukraine — Trump begged the Chinese to provide foreign interference in the 2020 presidential race to help get him reelected.
During a one-on-one meeting at the June 2019 Group of 20 summit in Japan, Xi complained to Trump about China critics in the United States. But Bolton writes in a book scheduled to be released next week that “Trump immediately assumed Xi meant the Democrats. Trump said approvingly that there was great hostility among the Democrats.
“He then, stunningly, turned the conversation to the coming U.S. presidential election, alluding to China’s economic capability to affect the ongoing campaigns, pleading with Xi to ensure he’d win,” Bolton writes. “He stressed the importance of farmers, and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome. I would print Trump’s exact words but the government’s prepublication review process has decided otherwise.”
Trump is every bit as incompetent and corrupt behind the scenes as he is in front of the cameras, with even top aides making fun of him. At one point Bolton calls Trump “stunningly uninformed” and easily manipulatable.
It’s no surprise that for Trump it’s all about Trump (and dictators).
John Bolton is no hero. If he cared more about his country than his wallet, he would have come forward long ago. But if even 1% of his book is true — and with the world having watched 41 months of Trump’s time in office there’s little reason to doubt it — Trump should be impeached and removed by the end of the week.
Instead, for some reason treated on a different scale, it’s just a random Wednesday for Donald Trump.
