Day 1,227: Trump acknowledges that black people aren’t part of the MAGA team
It’s not monumental news that Donald Trump has been a lifelong racist.
Since taking office, his tenure is best characterized as us versus them, with skin color a frequent divider . At present, with the country reacting to the death of unarmed black man George Floyd via the knee of white police officer, Trump is being particularly brazen. Of late, it’s evident, again, that he treats protests very differently if they’re being led predominately by white people versus being led predominately black people.
Saturday, Trump was busy tweeting. Apparently upset about protesters outside the White House on Friday, Trump tried to implore his supporters to come too.
Asked if was worried about his tweet stoking violence, Trump cowardly said he was “just asking” if they were going to be at the White House. He also made it clear that black people were not part of the his us.
“MAGA is Make America Great Again. By the way, they love African-American people, they love black people. MAGA loves the black people…MAGA loves our country.”
Trump goes out of his way to note that MAGA people — us — love black people — them. In his own eyes, black people aren’t part of MAGA. Not only that, since Trump says “MAGA loves our country,” the implication is that all of the thems don’t.
For years, it’s been clear that white supremacists overwhelmingly support Donald Trump. It’s not hard to figure out why.
