Day 1,222: Trump still thinks Memorial Day is joyous, calls Marine veteran congressman a ‘fraud’
Donald Trump somehow struggles with the meaning of Memorial Day, a solemn day honoring, mourning and remembering America’s fallen heroes.
On Day 494, Trump wished everyone a “Happy Memorial Day!” before saying the fallen would be proud of the economy and minority employment numbers.
This year, Trump didn’t go quite as far, but still seems to think the holiday is a joyous one.
Literally two minutes later, Trump moved on to a political message.
He would also continue to tout made-up conspiracy theories — “Obamagate” — and defended his playing golf during a pandemic.
Perhaps his most tone deaf comment, besides his initial “happy” one, was insulting Marine Corps veteran, Rep. Conor Lamb (D-PA). Trump, who couldn’t spell the congressman’s first or last name correctly, called Lamb an “American fraud,” all for a political endorsement that could have been delivered on any other day.
Trump rarely shines when it comes to class, but his consistent whiffing on handling Memorial Day with even an iota of dignity remains indefensible.
