Day 1,218: Trump didn’t want to be seen wearing a face mask, was photographed in one anyway

Donald Trump visited Ypsilanti, Michigan on Thursday to tour a Ford plant currently manufacturing ventilators.

With coronavirus still spreading throughout the U.S., and continuing to rage in the Wolverine State, Trump showed off his face mask to the press but, like a petulant child, vowed to not wear the mask in front of cameras.

“I didn’t want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it,” Trump said before showing off his fabric face covering, which he said he’d briefly strapped on backstage before removing for a tour of the factory. “It was very nice. It looked very nice. They said not necessary.”

However, much to his chagrin, as seen in the photo above, Trump was caught wearing the mask.

Speaking to press later, it was intentionally out of sight.

In eschewing a mask, Trump was in violation of state law and Ford’s policies.

Trump could routinely be an example to tens of millions of Americans on how to better protect themselves and others during the pandemic. There’s nothing embarrassing about following the CDC’s guidelines about wearing masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, as people across the country do everyday. But Trump’s vanity and bizarre machismo over putting a piece of cloth over half his face continues to win the day.
