Day 1,149: Buck-passer Trump: ‘I don’t take responsibility at all’ for coronavirus response debacle
It took Donald Trump and his team over two months to get a handle on any semblance of a response to the coronavirus epidemic. Less than two weeks ago, Trump was still promising his supporters that the deadly illness was a “new hoax” perpetrated for political reasons.
And yet, when asked at the White House on Friday if he took responsibility for his administration’s laissez faire attitude toward coronavirus testing and response, Trump defiantly responded in the negative.
When pressed about his failure to take responsibility, Trump resorted to insulting the reporter. In trying to answer, he claimed total ignorance about the substance of the inquiry and pointed the finger to other people.
If there’s been one consistent during Trump’s time in office — and really, his entire life — it’s that he refuses to take the blame for anything.
Stock market crashes? Blame the Federal Reserve. Or China. Or Obama.
A military mission fails? Blame an ally. Or Obama.
Delayed response time to an epidemic? Blame nebulous “rules, regulations and specifications.” Or Obama.
Ironically, Barack Obama understood what all presidents before Trump understood: the buck stops with them.
