Day 1,142: In another bizarre outing, Trump compares coronavirus testing to phone call with Ukrainian president
Donald Trump visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta on Friday to discuss the coronavirus outbreak and response. Thus far, Trump and his team’s reaction has been horrific.
Like virtually everything else Trump has done over the past three years, it was a very odd experience. He waved his arms about — seemingly more than normal — and wore his “Keep America Great” hat as the country and world try to fight off a potential pandemic.
In answering a question about his administration’s preparedness — an apt inquiry considering Trump’s gutting of federal agencies, task forces and global funding regarding wide-reaching illnesses — Trump answered by talking about the Dow Jones nearly hitting 30,000.
Trump stood on his uncle’s shoulders — who died 35 years ago — to explain his scientific intellect. (Trump has a lengthy history of claiming he knows more about certain topics than anyone on the planet. Those topics have included renewable energy, debt, trade, “the horror of nuclear,” and plenty more.)
He insulted the governor of Washington because he had the audacity to criticize the federal government’s lackadaisical response to the outbreak.
He shrugged his shoulders at the coronavirus because people also die of the flu. Again, Trump was standing in the CDC, ostensibly, to learn more about the dangers of the coronavirus.
And Trump compared coronavirus tests to his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Everything out of Trump’s mouth while the CDC seemed to come back to money and Trump, not the health and welfare of Americans.
