Day 1,141: Trump, again, vows to slash Medicare and Social Security

Donald Trump participated in a town hall in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Thursday.

Despite being lobbed softballs by the Fox News crew moderating, it was strange as ever.

He said coronavirus was, in some ways, a positive. His position was that because people were disincentived from traveling, they were forced to spend money in the U.S. Of course, that overlooks the fact that less people are coming to the U.S. and spending their money.

Trump acknowledged that his administration is trying to gut every provision in the Affordable Care Act through multiple judicial challenges. But he said a replacement plan would exist — despite one having been promised by the GOP and never materializing since the ACA was signed a decade ago — if he was reelected.

The lies continued, as he tried to take credit for Barack Obama’s accomplishments.

But there was a damning moment of truth buried in the mountain of lies: Trump’s admission that he wants to cut entitlements (read: Social Security and Medicare). It’s not the first time he’s made such an admission.

Despite pledging to never cut such programs while campaigning in 2016, Trump has repeatedly tried to cut entitlements throughout his time in office. His proposed budgets are littered with cuts and he also brazenly goes on national TV and admits to wanting to make those cuts.
