Donald Trump is fixated by poll numbers, often other people’s, but most frequently his own. He’s also keen on inventing facts when reality doesn’t overlap with his desires.

Those two ideas meet frequently, as Trump loves to tweet about his poll numbers.

Specifically, despite his historic unpopularity, Trump keeps repeating over and over and over that he has an approval rating at 95% from the members of the Republican Party. He used to use 94% as his go-to number, but abruptly stopped using that figure in September.

He used the 95% figure 32 times since October including Friday, and the number never changes: it’s always 95% according to Trump. And the tweets are frequently identical.

He also likes to say that the figures are a “record,” which is inherently counterintuitive when he’s tweeting the same numbers more than once a week.

His son, Eric, in saying the quiet part out loud, actually acknowledged that Trump “always” brags about the 95% figure.

For what it’s worth, throughout his time in office, Gallup has never found Trump to have a 95% or higher approval rating among Republicans.
