Day 1,098: Trump: cutting Social Security and Medicare ‘will be’ on my plate

Surrounded by billionaires, Donald Trump suggested that a second term could come with the stripping of entitlements from millions of Americans.

Wednesday, while in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, surrounded by millionaires and billionaires, Trump sat down with CNBC for an interview about the economy and trade. Joe Kernen asked Trump, about cutting entitlements, such as Social Security and Medicare. Trump responded, “At some point they will be [on his plate].”

JOE KERNEN: Entitlements ever be on your plate?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: At some point they will be. We have tremendous growth. We’re going to have tremendous growth. This next year I — it’ll be toward the end of the year. The growth is going to be incredible. And at the right time, we will take a look at that. You know, that’s actually the easiest of all things, if you look, cause it’s such a —

JOE KERNEN: If you’re willing —

PRESIDENT TRUMP: — big percentage.

JOE KERNEN: — to do some of the things that you said you wouldn’t do in the past, though, in terms of Medicare —

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, we’re going — we’re going look. We also have — assets that we’ve never had. I mean we’ve never had growth like this.

He then went on to ramble about employment numbers by minority group, as if that’s relevant to the question.

If anything, Trump’s position that the U.S. economy is “tremendous” is even more reason to protect the older Americans and those at or below the poverty line who rely on Medicare to survive. But Trump, either out of cruelty, sheer ignorance for what it means to go wanting, or both, sees a strong economy as a way to beat down the most vulnerable even more. He sees the current economic climate as a way to help those those lining the pockets of their $3,000 suit with cash to line the pockets of a $5,000 suit with cash.

Not just cruel, Trump’s total stupidity shone through as well. Of Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, Trump — who once professed that he “ha[d] the best words — said: “Well — you have to give him credit. I spoke to him very recently, and he’s also doing the rockets. He likes rockets. And — he does good at rockets too, by the way.”

Trump also indicated his belief that the wheel was invented by an American.

The wheel was invented about 5,000 years ago. The U.S. has been a country for 243 years. Donald Trump may be in office less than one more year.
